Freedom of Information Act

Delaware's Freedom of Information Act guarantees citizens access to government meetings and public records. Sussex County and other public bodies are governed by the requirements of FOIA (29 Del. C. Chapter 100).

Sussex County takes very seriously the public's right to know, and has taken numerous steps in recent years to ensure improved public access by posting to the County Web site important information such as government agendas, minutes, budgets and other records. Please review our Web site to determine whether the information you seek is already provided online.

Citizens requiring information not found on the County Web site can make their request in one of two ways. For information requests that are of a general or routine nature, please contact the County's Public Information Officer, Chip Guy, at (302) 854-5000 or by submitting an e-mail here. For requests that are more detailed or complex, a formal FOIA request may be required. The County's adopted FOIA policy and request form can be downloaded here.

Formal requests should be submitted to the department or office that has custody of the records in question, with a duplicate copy submitted to County Administration, PO Box 589, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Questions about FOIA should be directed to the Sussex County Public Information Officer.
