Learn about estate planning in Sussex County

Georgetown, DE (Jan. 6, 2016): Sussex County is an attractive place for retirees, and for a number of reasons, not the least of which are beautiful beaches, temperate climate and low taxes. But while the newly retired might give considerable thought to how and where they’ll spend their golden years, many may not have prepared their loved ones for how to handle their affairs upon passing.

The Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities will host a presentation at its next meeting, at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, on estate planning. Richard Kiger, chief deputy in the Sussex County Register of Wills office, will outline the role of the Register of Wills office and free estate planning resources available to all citizens, including making funeral arrangements, creating advance directives, and disposing of real estate and other property. The meeting will be held at the County Administrative Offices West Complex, 22215 N. DuPont Boulevard, in Georgetown.

The Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities is an 11-member panel established by the Sussex County Council to be an advocate for programs and policies that benefit older and disabled residents. The committee meets every other month, in January, March, May, July, September and November. All meetings are open to the public.

The Advisory Committee’s mission is to increase dialogue, make recommendations to Sussex County Council, and to give support, assistance and advice on significant issues and programs that may affect the lives of the county’s aging and adults with physical disabilities populations.
