National Hurricane Preparedness Week

It only takes one – that's the message the public, especially in coastal areas like Sussex County, Delaware, need to keep in mind as another hurricane season begins in the Atlantic basin June 1. The last week of May (May 24-30) is Hurricane Preparedness Week, a time for coastal residents, property owners and visitors to know the risks of tropical weather and learn how to prepare their homes, businesses and, most importantly, their families for the possibility of hazardous weather.

The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center invites the public to take a few minutes now to learn about hurricane preparedness, and then take the necessary steps – when the weather is clear, not as storm clouds loom on the horizon – to protect life and property.
