Sussex County to hold public hearing on proposed extension of Millville sewer district

Georgetown, Del., Feb. 25, 2013: Sussex County will hold a public hearing in early March on a planned extension of the Millville Sanitary Sewer District to give property owners and residents an overview of the project and proposed rates.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Millville Town Hall in Millville. Property owners and those living within the area proposed for the extension are encouraged to attend to learn more about the project that would extend public wastewater service to more than 80 parcels in an area mostly along Del. Route 26, from Hocker’s Super Center west to St. George’s UMC Church at Clarksville.

In 2012, Sussex County Council granted the County’s Engineering Department permission to prepare and post notices for a public hearing on the proposed $2.6 million expansion plan. Based on feedback offered during the March 7 hearing, County engineers will make a formal recommendation to County Council later this spring on whether to approve the proposed extension. Council must approve any expansion to a County sewer district.

If approved, construction of the sewer extension, including pipes and pump stations, would be phased with the State’s planned widening project for SR 26, tentatively set to begin sometime in 2014.
