Sussex County names Vanessa B. Pettyjohn employee of the year

Georgetown, Del., Dec. 5, 2014: Sussex County has named Vanessa B. Pettyjohn of Millsboro the 2014 employee of the year for County government.

County Administrator Todd F. Lawson on Friday announced this year’s winner during the annual Mildred King Luncheon for the County’s approximately 500 employees. Ms. Pettyjohn was selected by her co-workers from a field of four employees, all quarterly winners this past year, for the honor.

Ms. Pettyjohn, this year’s first quarter winner, received a standing ovation from employees as she was presented with a plaque.

“I’m humbled and honored to have been selected as Employee of the Year,” said Ms. Pettyjohn, who is a billing support coordinator in the Finance Department-Billing Division. “My philosophy has always been that if I can help somebody along my journey, then my living would not be in vain. Working here at Sussex County allows me to do just that.”

Mr. Lawson commended Ms. Pettyjohn for more than 38 years of dedicated service, which began in 1976 as a clerk in the Assessment division. Mr. Lawson praised Ms. Pettyjohn for her professionalism, personality, enthusiasm and commitment to going above and beyond in service to the County organization and the constituents it serves.
