Sussex County wins $86K grant for Woodland Park project

Sussex County Council on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, accepted a check for $86,058 from the Delaware Land & Water Conservation Trust Fund after submitting a winning grant application to the State of Delaware for the forthcoming Woodland Park project near Seaford. Presenting the check to County Council President Michael Vincent, left, and Project Engineer Juel Gibbons, right, is Ray Bivens, director of Delaware State Parks. The funds, which follow another $103,000 State grant in 2010 to purchase the former Woodland Golf Park for the Nanticoke River dredging project, will be used to construct nearly 2 miles of low-impact trails at the site.

This past summer, County Council authorized construction of a 20-acre park to move forward. Once complete, the park will feature walking trails and open space for passive recreation on the site along Woodland Road, just outside Seaford.

Bidding for the project is expected to begin later this fall, with construction and completion expected in 2015.
