Sussex County provides a variety of services to its residents. These services are funded, in part, by real estate and capitation taxes.
There are more than 168,500 parcels located within the approximately 938 square miles of land in Sussex County. The Billing Division staff is responsible for the billing of taxes and other levies within the county. For Fiscal Year 2012-13, Sussex County issued more than 171,000 tax bills totaling approximately $110.1 million, to be collected on behalf of the general government, local libraries and the eight school districts within the county.
