Impacted Communities Study & Prioritization Policy

Thank you for your interest in Sussex County’s Impacted Communities Study and Prioritization Policy! The Community Development & Housing Department finalized both in September 2016.

The Department surveyed 14 rural communities throughout Sussex County through door-to-door surveys, telephone surveys, and hosting community meetings. From the surveys, the County obtained information relating to household demographics and income, as well as how residents prioritized various needs regarding their community. The following communities were part of the Study: Lucas Development, Pinetown, New Hope/S. Old State Road, West Rehoboth, Polly Branch, Dog Patch, Mount Joy, Concord, Possum Point/Riverview, Coverdale Crossroads, Diamond Acres, Cool Spring, Cedar Creek, and Greentop.

With this data, the County put in place the Prioritization Policy. This information will be particularly useful as the County has already started the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan. For more information, see Comprehensive Plan.
