Learn about ‘aging in place’ in Sussex County

Georgetown, DE (July 11, 2016): Sussex County continues to be an attractive destination for retirees and those looking to enjoy an active yet laidback lifestyle, but as residents age, access to services and programs can present a challenge to senior citizens. The leading organization dedicated to senior residents in Sussex County, CHEER Inc., is offering a new array of services that aims to help elder residents stay healthy and ‘age in place’ in the comfort of their own homes.

The Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities will host a presentation at its next meeting, at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, about services offered by CHEER Inc., its network of centers, and how seniors can enjoy a heightened quality of life, no matter the age.

Guest speaker Anthony DelFranco, CHEER’s director of marketing, will outline a host of services that promote a healthy and active lifestyle. The presentation will focus on nutrition, personal care, adult day care, transportation, Meals on Wheels, hospitality, volunteerism and community relations services and how CHEER offers a comprehensive program that enables seniors to live life to the fullest. The meeting will be held at the CHEER Community Center, 20520 Sand Hill Road, in Georgetown.

The Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities is an 11-member panel established by the Sussex County Council to be an advocate for programs and policies that benefit older and disabled residents. The committee meets every other month, in January, March, May, July, September and November. All meetings are open to the public.

The Advisory Committee’s mission is to increase dialogue, make recommendations to Sussex County Council, and to give support, assistance and advice on significant issues and programs that may affect the lives of the county’s aging and adults with physical disabilities populations.
