Sussex County Symposium on Veteran Homelessness

Sussex County officials and the Town of Georgetown invite veterans and anyone with a passion for helping America’s brave military members to join in a half-day discussion this August aimed at ending veteran homeless in Delaware and across the United States.

The Sussex County Symposium on Veteran Homelessness will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, in the lecture hall of the Carter Partnership Center at Delaware Technical Community College-Owens Campus in Georgetown. During this important gathering, community leaders and concerned citizens will come together to share ideas and work toward solutions on ending homelessness among the estimated 50,000 veterans nationwide.

Locally, Sussex County Council, the Town of Georgetown and other communities across Delaware have committed to partnering with each other in the Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness in 2015, a nationwide effort to coordinate and marshal resources among local, state, federal and non-profit agencies – all with the singular goal of assisting homeless veterans with housing. The Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness in 2015 is a joint initiative of Joining Forces, the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as communities here in the First State.

The Sussex County Symposium will build awareness about the issue of veteran homelessness locally, and the available resources to house homeless veterans. Georgetown Mayor Bill West and Sussex County government officials are hosting this event to make information available to residents about how they can help to honor the service of veterans by making sure all of them have a place to call home.

Registration for the conference is suggested. To register, please visit the HUD website or call (302) 573-6300.
