Georgetown, DE (March 10, 2016): Sussex County is home to a growing population, especially among retirees, many of whom -- as many as 22,500 people, according to federal statistics – served their country as members of the United States armed forces. With growth, though, can come questions about whether veterans’ needs are being met. Fortunately, veteran and senior advocates this month will educate the public on what resources are out there, at the ready, to make veterans’ retirement years all that they can be.

The Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities will host a presentation at its next meeting, at 10 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016, called “Veteran Services in Sussex County.” Guest speaker Laurie Corsa, veterans’ service officer for the Delaware Commission on Veterans Affairs, will outline the role of her office and the various services in Sussex County to help veterans and their families better understand available resources, and offer tips on how to navigate the sometimes-difficult application process. The meeting will be held at the County Administrative Offices West Complex, 22215 N. DuPont Boulevard, in Georgetown.

The Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities is an 11-member panel established by the Sussex County Council to be an advocate for programs and policies that benefit older and disabled residents. The committee meets every other month, in January, March, May, July, September and November. All meetings are open to the public.

The Advisory Committee’s mission is to increase dialogue, make recommendations to Sussex County Council, and to give support, assistance and advice on significant issues and programs that may affect the lives of the county’s aging and adults with physical disabilities populations.
