Learn about building an advocacy coalition for the aging in Sussex

Georgetown, DE (July 9, 2012): If you’ve ever been passionate about a cause, but not sure how to turn that drive into action, come to the next meeting of the Sussex County Advisory Committee for the Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities to learn how you can make a difference – and build support doing it.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, at the Indian River Senior Center, 214 Irons Ave., in Millsboro. Peggy Geisler, executive director of the Sussex Health Promotion Coalition, will provide a presentation entitled “Coalition Success: Key Elements in Organizing a Coalition”. The presentation will focus on the critical steps necessary to building a successful coalition of advocacy – whether for senior citizens, individuals with physical challenges, or any other group in need of support from those moved to action.

The Sussex County Advisory Committee for the Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities is an 11-member panel established by the Sussex County Council to be an advocate for programs and policies that benefit older and disabled residents. The committee meets every other month, in January, March, May, July, September and November. All meetings are open to the public.

The Advisory Committee’s mission is to increase dialogue, make recommendations to Sussex County Council, and to give support, assistance and advice on significant issues and programs that may affect the lives of the county’s aging and adults with physical disabilities populations.
