November 27, 2012 MR 12-05 [Long Neck, DE] - Sussex County Emergency Medical Services will break ground next month on a new paramedic station that will provide a permanent home for the EMS unit and staff now serving the growing Long Neck area.

Officials from Sussex County EMS will welcome members of Sussex County Council and other dignitaries for the brief ceremony at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, on the site of the future home to Paramedic Station 106, located at 31282 Indian Mission Road north of Route 24 (John J. Williams Hwy) east of Millsboro. The ceremony is open to the public.

The $593,000 project represents the second Sussex County EMS station of its kind. The station design – essentially a one-story, 1,300-square-foot rancher with attached 1,200-square-foot garage – is similar to the first paramedic station constructed in March 2009 near Laurel. The station, expected to be completed by April 2013, is designed to be energy efficient and blend into the surrounding community.

The new facility and location will allow for more efficient response to all the areas currently served by Medic 106, including Long Neck, Angola, Rehoboth Beach, Lewes and Millsboro. Medic 106 responded to over 2,000 emergency incidents in 2011. Currently, the Medic 106 unit works out of leased space at the nearby Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad.
