Sussex County names Rodney T. Marvel Jr. employee of the year

Georgetown, Del., Dec. 7, 2012: Sussex County has named Rodney T. Marvel Jr. of Georgetown the 2012 employee of the year for County government.

County Council President Michael Vincent on Friday announced this year’s winner during the annual Mildred King Luncheon for the County’s approximately 500 employees. Mr. Marvel was selected by his co-workers from a field of four employees, all quarterly winners this past year, for the honor.

Mr. Marvel, this year’s second quarter winner, received a standing ovation from employees as he was presented with a plaque.

“We have a lot of good people who work in Environmental Services. It is really because of them that I’m here today,” said Mr. Marvel, who is assistant director of the Environmental Services division that oversees the County’s wastewater treatment facilities. “I can’t thank them enough, and all the County’s employees, for giving me this honor.”

County Administrator Todd F. Lawson commended Mr. Marvel for nearly 20 years of service, which began in 1993 as an electrician at the South Coastal Regional Wastewater Facility. Mr. Lawson praised Mr. Marvel for his good-natured personality, his strong work ethic, as well as his professionalism and willingness to help his fellow employees no matter the problem.
