Sussex County paramedic honored by Bethany-Fenwick chamber

MR 12-02 [Ocean View, Del.] – Sussex County Paramedic Dave Hammerer recently received honors from the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce for service to the community.

Paramedic Hammerer was recognized Feb. 10 during the organization’s annual Joshua M. Freeman Awards ceremony, held at DiFebo’s Bistro on the Green at Bear Trap Dunes.

Each year, the organization recognizes local police, firefighters and EMS personnel for their dedication to and sacrifices for the local community. Paramedic Hammerer was among this year’s EMS recipients, and was nominated by his district supervisor, Glenn Marshall.

Mr. Hammerer, a seven-year SCEMS veteran who was most recently stationed at the Medic 105 unit in the Millville area, was recognized for his involvement in several committees and teams. In 2011, Paramedic Hammerer was named field training officer, a position in which he is responsible for training both new and current employees. He also is a shift representative with the paramedic equipment committee and often volunteers to research new equipment.

“Dave is not only an asset to the shift, but he is an asset to the department, and to the community,” Supervisor Marshall said. “I am fortunate to have Dave on the shift; he is a caring paramedic and a dependable employee.”

In addition to his service with Sussex County EMS, he is a duty crew officer with the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company. “It is an honor to be recognized with such a dedicated and deserving group of police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel,” Mr. Hammerer said.
