The Sussex County Constable's Office is responsible for enforcement of the County Code, and is charged with investigating public complaints related to property maintenance and zoning issues. Property maintenance issues can include tall grass, trash, and/or abandoned vehicles. The office also oversees dog licensing and manages the County's dog control services contract with Delaware Animal Care & Control.
When a violation is issued, the office works closely with individuals to bring their properties into compliance with the County Code. In extreme circumstances when all other means have been exhausted, the office issues criminal summonses to violators, who must appear before the Delaware Justice of the Peace Court for resolution.
To report a suspected violation of the County Code, contact the Sussex County Constable's Office at (302) 855-7819. Emails also can be sent to the contact listed below.
To report issues with dogs, including animal welfare complaints, please contact Delaware Animal Services at (302) 255-4646 or visit the Delaware Office of Animal Welfare website. Complaints about noise/barking dogs are governed by the Delaware Noise Control Act, Del. Code Title 7, Chapter 71, and should be directed to the appropriate local or State law enforcement agency.
