Building Permit Process

Sussex County operates numerous sanitary sewer districts and one water district. System connection charges (impact fees) are collected in these areas prior to the issuance of building permits. Contractors must present a copy of the proposed plans for commerical buildings to the Permits Division in the Engineering Department (3rd Floor of the County Administrative Offices) for their review. Plans are not required for detached single family residential structures.
